Protection Program
Fees and Payouts
Who pays what, and when money moves
The short version
Sellers pay the transaction fee. Buyers pay the item price, shipping, applicable tax, and any optional service they choose. Everything is itemized before either side commits.
What a seller sees before offering
- Item price and quantity
- Shipping charge
- Authentication cost and shipping-protection cost
- Any separately disclosed payment cost
- The transaction fee
- Taxes or required deductions
- Estimated proceeds, plus any reserve or payout timing
Default allocation
- The seller pays the transaction fee.
- The buyer pays the item price, shipping, applicable tax, and any optional buyer-selected service.
- The seller is financially responsible for standard fulfillment and seller-caused problems.
- Seller shipping cost may be passed to the buyer through the disclosed shipping charge.
- Required high-value shipping protection is included in the disclosed shipping cost.
How payouts move
- The buyer pays and the order becomes Paid — Awaiting Fulfillment.
- The seller ships within the agreed handling period.
- Carrier tracking shows acceptance, then delivery.
- The buyer's inspection period runs, or the buyer confirms everything is correct early.
- The order completes and proceeds become eligible for payout.
- The payout is sent on the seller's payout schedule.
Holds and reserves
We may hold proceeds, apply a rolling reserve, or restrict instant payouts for new accounts, unusual growth, high-value orders, poor dispute history, or open investigations. If a reserve applies, we show the percentage, the duration, the release conditions, the current amount, the reason for material changes, and how to ask for a review.
The words we use
Money held before an order completes is a payment hold, not escrow. We describe it as payment received, seller proceeds pending, payout scheduled, or payout temporarily held.
This page is a plain-language summary. The complete published Protection Program terms control, and nothing here is insurance, legal, or tax advice.
