Seller's Guide
How to sell used sneakers safely online
Sneaker sellers get targeted by return swaps, fake payments, and chargebacks more than almost any other category. This checklist keeps you covered, whether you sell on or anywhere else.
Quick checklist before you ship
- Photos of size tag, box label, and unique wear marks saved before shipping
- Condition graded honestly with flaws photographed
- Payment confirmed through the platform before shipping
- Tracking uploaded for every shipment, signature on high-value pairs
- Carrier receipt kept
- Shipping method matches what was agreed in the offer
- You respond to any case before the response deadline
1. Document the shoes like evidence
Photograph the size tag, box label, insoles, outsoles, stitching, and any unique wear marks — a scuff or crease you can identify later. Sneaker return scams often involve a buyer returning a different pair. Your photos of unique identifiers are what prove the returned shoes aren't yours. On Seekventory, offer photos are recorded with the offer before payment.
2. Spot the common buyer scams
Fake 'payment sent' screenshots. Overpayment followed by a request to refund the difference. Requests to ship to an unconfirmed address. Buyers pushing to move to DMs or text. Chargebacks filed after delivery claiming 'item not received' when you shipped without tracking. Every one of these is defeated by keeping payment, messaging, and shipping inside the marketplace.
3. Ship only after payment is real
Never ship on the strength of a screenshot or an email that says funds are 'pending verification' unless you can see it in your own account. On Seekventory, the buyer pays through the Protection Program first — the order only becomes shippable once payment is confirmed, and you can see the exact payout quote and fee breakdown before you commit.
4. Always ship with tracking — no exceptions
Untracked shipping means any buyer can claim non-delivery and win. Use the shipping method agreed in your offer, upload the tracking number promptly, and keep the carrier drop-off receipt. For higher-value pairs, add signature confirmation. A tracking record showing delivery to the buyer's address is the single strongest piece of evidence in a dispute.
5. Grade condition conservatively
Sneaker disputes usually start with condition: 'worn twice' that shows creasing, 'like new' with a stained insole. Describe flaws with photos, not just words. If you grade a pair 9/10 and the buyer receives exactly that, there's no case against you. Overgrading invites returns, refunds, and a hit to your seller standing.
6. Don't ignore a case — respond with your evidence
If the buyer opens a dispute, you get a response window. Submit your photos of the unique wear marks, the tracking receipt, and the agreed description. If the buyer returns a different pair, your documentation is how staff tell. On Seekventory, a contested case goes to review with evidence from both sides, and one appeal is available with new evidence.
What if the buyer claims a problem?
Your payout is held until the case resolves, so nothing moves without a decision. Submit your photos, tracking, and description. If the buyer returns a different pair, your photos of unique wear marks are the evidence that proves it. One appeal per side is available with new evidence.
